Vistaのハードウェアロゴプログラムとは

 Microsoftは、Windows Vistaに対応した新しいコンピュータを購入したいと考える顧客をサポートするとともに、2007年第1四半期に予定されるVistaの一般リリースまでの間のOEMやシステムビルダーによるハードウェア新製品の販売を支援するため、Designed for Windowsロゴプログラムの新バージョンを導入している(このプログラムにはハードウェアロゴとソフトウェアロゴがあるが、以下ではハードウェアロゴに焦点を当てる)。

 新しいロゴプログラムでは、コンピュータメーカーは製品について2つの認定を受けることができる。下位レベルの「Windows Vista Capable」と上位レベルの「Windows Vista Premium Ready」だ(Vista Capableの認定には対応するロゴがあるが、Premium Readyにはそうしたロゴはなく、OEMは、広告やプロモーションでこの認定の取得をアピールできるにとどまる)。これらの認定を受けたコンピュータはWindows XP SP2を搭載しており、購入者はWindows Vistaを利用するには、同OSの発売後にアップグレードする必要がある。

Windows Vista Capable
 このロゴが付いたコンピュータでは、Vistaをインストールして、User Account Controlや新しい検索機能などVistaの基本的な機能を利用できるが、新しいAeroのグラフィックス効果は表示できない可能性が高い。

Windows Vista Premium Ready
 Microsoftは、AeroのサポートなどVistaのより多くの機能を利用できるコンピュータがPremium Readyと認定されると説明している。

 Microsoftはコンピュータメーカー向けのロゴプログラムを実施するだけでなく、ハードウェアやソフトウェアのベンダーにも、プリンタやスキャナ、グラフィックスカードといったアドオンハードウェアと、ソフトウェアアプリケーションおよびユーティリティを対象とした以下の2つのロゴを提供している。

Works with Windows Vista
 MicrosoftのドキュメントではVista StandardやBasicロゴとも呼ばれるこのロゴは、顧客が購入しようとしている周辺機器やアプリケーションが、互換性、信頼性、セキュリティに関するMicrosoftの基準を満たしていることを顧客に保証することを目的としている。これらの基準に従って製品を作るパートナーは、製品にWorks with Windows Vistaロゴを付け、製品のドライバに、互換性テストに合格していることを示すデジタル署名を行い、Windows Updateを使ってドライバとそのテスト済みの更新版を配布することができる。さらに、こうしたパートナーの製品は、Windows対応のソフトウェアおよびハードウェア製品の一覧を提供するWebサイトであるMicrosoftのWindows Marketplaceに掲載される。

Certified for Windows Vista
 Vista PremiumやPremiumロゴとも呼ばれるこのロゴは、顧客が購入しようとしている製品が、互換性、信頼性、セキュリティに関するMicrosoftの最も高度な基準を満たしており、最高のVistaエクスペリエンスを提供することを顧客に保証することを目的としている。Vista Ultimateのすべての機能を活用できるハードウェアを求める顧客は、Certified for Windows Vistaロゴが付いた製品を探すとよいだろう。こうした基準に従って製品を設計、テストするパートナーは、Works with Windows Vistaロゴのすべての利点を得る。
