Windows 8に「App Store」？ チーム名がヒントに

Microsoftのシノフスキー社長が紹介したWindows 8の開発チーム名リストには「App Store」や「Hyper-V」などがある。

　米MicrosoftのWindows部門社長、スティーブン・シノフスキー氏は8月17日（現地時間）、次期OSの「Windows 8」について解説する公式ブログで、同OSの開発チームの構成を紹介した。35のチーム名からは、幾つかの新機能が推測できる。

　まず、「App Store」というチーム名が目を引く。名称から推測するしかないが、米Appleの「Mac App Store」のような、OSに関連するアプリや拡張機能を提供するオンラインストアが登場するのかもしれない。Microsoftも「Windows Marketplace」というソフトウェアやハードウェアを販売するWebサイトを公開し、現在は「Microsoft Store」という名称で運営している。Microsoftはかつて、Appleによる「Appstore」の商標登録を阻止しようとした（商標登録は却下された）。

　また、「In Control Of Your PC」と「Human Interaction Platform」は、音声認識技術やKinectのようなジェスチャーによるコマンド機能などに取り組むのかもしれない。同社が6月紹介した「Bing on Xbox」では、Xbox 360で音声とKinectを使ってコンテンツを検索できる。こうした機能がWindows 8にも搭載される可能性がある。

　「Hyper-V」というチーム名もある。現在このハイパーバイザーはWindows Server 2008 R2に搭載されているが、これがWindows 8にも搭載されるようになるのかもしれない。
