SAPクライアントとして機能するOffice
MicrosoftとSAPは2005年4月、Officeアプリケーション(主にOutlook)をmySAP ERPシステムのフロントエンドとして利用できるようにする製品を共同開発することを発表した。この製品はMendocinoのコード名で呼ばれている。2006年後半にリリース予定のバージョン1では、OutlookからSAPシステムのデータや機能にアクセスするためのタスクペインと拡張メニューが用意される。
Mendocinoのバージョン1の機能は、以下の3つの分野に重点が置かれている。
広く普及したOffice製品をSAPのバックエンドERPスイートへの入り口にするMendocinoにより、Officeをカスタムアプリケーションのプラットフォームとして確立しようとするMicrosoftの取り組みが前進するほか、そうした連携機能がないOracleシステムに対してSAPシステムが一歩優位に立つことになる。さらに、企業はMendocinoにより、多様な部門の社員がSAPシステム上の有益なビジネス情報に、彼らのほとんどにとって使い慣れたクライアントからアクセスできるようにすることができる。
ポータル技術の連携
2005年初めに発表されたSAP Portal Development Kit(PDK)for .NETは、SAPのNetWeaverのポータル技術を利用したポータルコンポーネント開発を容易にするVisual Studioのアドインだ。このPDKは、Microsoftの.NET FrameworkとC#やVisual Basic .NETなどの言語を使ったNetWeaverポータルコンポーネントの開発をサポートする。SAPにとって、こうしたVisual Studioへのサポート強化は、Microsoftの開発ツールと技術に慣れた多数の企業開発者やISV開発者にとってのNetWeaverポータルプラットフォームの魅力を高めることにつながる。このことはNetWeaverの普及を後押しする可能性がある。
また、SAPは、開発者がMicrosoft SharePoint Portal Server(SPS)サイトやExchangeメールサーバからのデータをSAP NetWeaverポータルに取り込むのに役立つサンプルやドキュメントも提供している。例えば、開発者はSPSのドキュメントライブラリやExchangeのフォルダを、NetWeaverポータルプラットフォーム上に構築されたナレッジマネジメントサイトに情報ソースとして統合できる。逆に、MicrosoftのSAP iView Web Part Toolkitというツールキットは、(サポートは提供されていないが)開発者や管理者がSPSポータルサイトにSAP iViewを表示することを可能にする。
